Prayer of St. Francis Assissi
Lord, make me a channel of your peace
Where there is hatred let me bring your love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
And where there’s doubt, faith.
Oh, Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there’s despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there’s sadness, joy.
Make me a chnnnel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in giving that we receive;
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
Amen
James Montgomery (1771-1854) defines prayer in this verse:
“Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire,
Uttered or unexpressed,
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.”
No person is too old or too young to pray; too rich or too poor to pray; too famous or too humble to pray; too sick or too healthy to pray; too intelligent or too illiterate to pray. There is no place too bad or too great to pray; too small or too big to pray. The line that connects us with our God will never be broken or unavailable. There is no toll fee to access the line. There is no appointment necessary.
