We held a Live2Lead public event on Thursday March 29 at the Corporate Alliance Provo Hub in Utah. The participants found it refreshing to learn from John Maxwell and the other presenters. Many of the participants stayed for almost one hour, after the event was over, to visit and connect with one another.
I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to Corporate Alliance and Brenda Hiatt for allowing us to meet in their beautiful facility, Express Employment Professionals for sponsoring the event, and all the other participants. When a group of abundance-minded people gather together to learn and find ways to develop themselves, great things do happen. This is what we experienced during this event.
John taught five key principles that will help us to develop the leader within us. The core of his teaching is that wherever we are in life we still have “More and More”, and More and more before”. The five principles that he taught with great passion during this session include:
- Abundance – think of abundance, not scarcity. Having an abundant mindset helps know there is more we can accomplish. The two elements that are essentials are creativity and flexibility. John stated that creatives tells us that there is always an answer. Flexibility helps us know “there is more than one answer.”
- Have a Process or a System. He said that “Hope is not a strategy.”
- Ask Questions – One of the questions we need to ask is “Who do you know that I need to know.”
- Intentionally Grow Every Day.
- You may wonder how you can do that. The key word is “intentionally”. How often? We need to grow every day. Let me show how I approach my daily growth plan. I realized that I needed to grow and maintain high positive energy in four areas of my life. I need to grow mentally (intellectually), physically, emotionally, and spiritually (I am a person of faith). To grow physically I must eat, sleep and exercise every day. I don’t have a rigorous exercise regiment. I do simple things like walking, 20 or more pushups, 20 or more situps. To grow intellectually, I read for at least 30 minutes every day. You may want to do 15 minutes. To grow spiritually I read ancient and/or modern-day scriptures. I pray daily. To grow emotionally I repent and I forgive others. I meditate. I embrace life with all its beauty, challenges and blessings. I find ways to add value to others. These are my own insights and practices. Yours may be different.
- Investing Time – Invest time with people; investing time to go to places that will inspire you; and investing time to attend great events.
These principles and many other important principles on leadership can be found as you read John’s new book Developing The Leader Within You (https://store.johnmaxwell.com/Developing-the-Leader-Within-You-20_p_1666.html).
