I recently read Illens Dort’s book, Thinking & Acting with a Compassionate Heart. The insights and guidance shared in this book come from years of life experiences and his deep pondering of these experiences. Illens has a gift in being able to capture the essence and teachings of these life experiences in concise, but powerful, aphorisms. In this regards I would compare him to the late, great, Jim Rohn. I thought I could read this book in one sitting but it took me two. This is because I found myself pondering many of Illens’ personal experiences he shares in the book, the philosophies and aphorisms that came from these experiences, and how I could apply them in my life. The sub title of the book is Principles & Ideas that Unlock the Human Potential. I intended to take several minutes to scan Illens’ book and ended up spending a couple of hours absorbing the gentle truth in his words and life. There are many things that I love about Illens Dort’s book. First of all, it is concise and is in a form of a workbook. As we read the book we can think, ponder, and respond. With the focus of “Thinking and Acting”, we can make promises to ourselves with impetus to go and do. I also like the overriding emphasis on PASSION (to really focus on our personal behavioral development) with the motive to have COMPASSION in order to help our family members, friends, and others to do the same. Illens Dort brings us original and authentic aphorisms that are powerful technologies to enable us to gain access to our higher self.
