Be Yourself. Try to grow and improve every day. Developing a personal growth plan and working on it daily is the key to unlock the human potential.” —Illens Dort

At an early age I learned the importance of being myself. As a teenage boy I once tried a new haircut. It was a clean and a beautiful one. It was also the popular haircut of the time. Many young people loved it. But it was not popular among adults. I thought at that time, that my young friends and even their parents would applaud my new style. I was surprised when two of my friends, at a different time, reminded me that they always loved the simple haircut I used to have. They even encouraged me to go back to it. They didn’t leave much room and time for me to question why, because they told me they wanted me to be me and they loved that person. I knew they were sincere, because I knew them well. From that experience I learned that I didn’t need to worry about being someone else or trying to fit in. All I needed to focus on was being me and being my best me every day. I had a unique way of being me. My closest friends knew it and loved it. They helped me to realize it and to embrace it. They were candid in their comments because their love for me was genuine and the respect they had for me could not be comprised.

Keith Ferrazzi, author of “never eat alone” and former CMO of Deloitte Consulting, states that “There’s one guaranteed way to stand out in a professional world: Be yourself. I believe that vulnerability—-yes, vulnerability—-is one of the most underappreciated assets in business today.” Be yourself and try to be your best every day. This, my friend, is going to be good enough. Share with us what you are doing to continue to grow as a person.
