“Creating positive influence will not only be a catalyst to your success, it will become the legacy you will leave behind.” — Dr. John C. Maxwell
On this beautiful Spring morning I had the honor of speaking at Polaris High School in Orem, Utah. I love this school. I admire the great work Mrs. Lori Thorn and her staff are doing there. Everyone who works at the school demonstrates a genuine passion to serve these students. I also appreciate the warm welcome the students extended to me. They were kind and respectful during the entire presentation.
The topic I chose to address was The Power of Positive Influence. As Dr. John C. Maxwell and his team (The John Maxwell Team) say it, “Creating positive influence will not only be a catalyst to your success, it will become the legacy you will leave behind.” No matter where we are and what we are doing, we influence someone and we are influenced by others. The question is what kind of influencers are we? What can we do to increase our influence with others?
Let me share only in this post one simple principle that helps to increase our influence with others in any situation and any country. The principle is Kindness. It does not require much to be kind and speak kind words to one another. Oh, how much I love these words of the Poet Joseph L. Townsend written over 150 years ago:
Let us oft speak kind words to each other at home or wherever we may be;
Like the war-blings of birds on the heath-er, the tones will be welcome and free.
They will gladden the hear that is repining, give courage and hope from above.
And where the dark clouds hide the shining, let in the bright sunlight of love.
Oh, the kind words we give shall in memory live and sunshine forever impart.
Let us oft speak kind words to each other; kind words are sweet tones of the heart.
By just reading and reflecting on these words, my heart becomes a little sweeter. Can you think of someone today that you can speak kind word to? Do you have someone in your life that speaks kind words to you? Would you please take a moment and let that person know how much you appreciate the power of his or her positive influence?
The other principles that help increase our influence with people are service and how ability to connect with others. In a different post I will address these two principles.
From now and always; “Let us oft speak kind words to each other; kind words are sweet tones of the heart.”
