INVESTING IN HUMAN CAPITAL – Transformational Thinking and Action

INVESTING IN HUMAN CAPITAL – Transformational Thinking and Action

We live in a busy time. Information is coming to us like a hurricane.

We are bombarded with hourly news, snapshots, Instagram pictures, Facebook comments, blog posts, and tweets. It seems like everyone is competing for our time and resources. To stop and connect with our inner-self can be a challenge. For the last four decades, I have been working on this pratical process that will help you to stay focused on what matters most—I call it transformational thinking and action. The five key principles of this process are shown in the continuous  circle above (Reflect-Record-Remember-Apply-Share).

In one of my previous posts, I talked about the principle of reflection. In the future posts I will address the other four.

INVESTING IN HUMAN CAPITAL – The Power of a Smile

INVESTING IN HUMAN CAPITAL – The Power of a Smile

A smile costs nothing, but creates much. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None are so rich that they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for it’s benefits. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody until it is given away.Anon

We all have a smile. Let us share it to gladden a heart and brigthen a day. Let us also take time to show appreciation to those who make our days by sharing their smile. Let us make this world a better place for all by just being a little kinder,  a little more generous, and little more compassionate.

As you think of someone who had influenced your life with their kind heart and a smile, would you take a moment to thank that person and share with us?

Leadership and Culture Conference – Reviews 2

Leadership and Culture Conference – Reviews 2

I wanted to reach out and express my many thanks to Illens Dort for his service-based leadership training class.   It was well worth the time and the minimal fee to attend.  Learning about how some of the great leaders in business and business leadership such as John Maxwell and Dave Ramsey have begun to implement a service-centered leadership approach was simply inspiring!  I felt impressed and moved to change our approach to leading my team by an example of service.  I learned that if as a leadership team, we can look for ways to serve employees, our retail stores and ultimately our customer, it can create a reciprocal loyalty of our brand and a positive energy within the walls of the company that propels growth and elevates all.  I would highly recommend attending this class or any that Illens offers.  Illens has a wonderfully humble way of teaching, while giving powerful tools that enable you to lead with compassion. Thanks, Illens! I look forward to your next class. — Heather Granata – Little Adventures LLC, Owner – http://littleadventures.com  – Comfortable – Washable – Guaranteed! – http://babylaundryandmore.com – This Moment Matters

Dear Illens, I really enjoyed the Leadership Conference. I appreciate the invitation. It is always nice to hear from you as well. You are a great speaker and have much insight and wisdom to share. I look forward to reading your book. Keep up the amazing work you do. —-Kathleen Lopez BSB – CEO & Broker – Sentinel –  www.utahsentinelgroup.com

Illens is a shining example of someone who thinks and acts with a compassionate heart. The concepts that he shares in regards to servant leadership principles are insightful and have a proven track record for success. — Allan Smart, MBA – Partner, B2B CFO – www.allansmartcfo.co

“I find this event to be both insightful and motivating. I would recommend it to any business professional and spesifically business owners.” — Dave Poer

I was privileged to join a group of Utah Business Leaders for an exceptional event facilitated by Illens Dort. We were treated to a remarkable opportunity to examine our business practices and beliefs to discover the truth within them, while discarding the myths. Probably the greatest concept I learned was that there is “more more.” What does that mean? That age is not a barrier to continued success. That past success or failure does not define my new successes. Today, I can create more “more.” I can enjoy a greater level of success than I ever have. At 60 years of age, that understanding had opened a new level of achievement for me. I highly recommend that you consider Illens Dort for this life changing, business changing opportunity. — Frits Tessers

INVESTING IN HUMAN CAPITAL – The Power of the Mind

INVESTING IN HUMAN CAPITAL – The Power of the Mind

If we work marble, it will perish; if we work upon brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and instill into them just principles, we are then engraving that upon tablets which no time will efface, but will brighten to all eternity.”Daniel Webster

The Power of Positive Influence

The Power of Positive Influence

“Creating positive influence will not only be a catalyst to your success, it will become the legacy you will leave behind.” — Dr. John C. Maxwell

On this beautiful Spring morning I had the honor of speaking at Polaris High School in Orem, Utah. I love this school. I admire the great work Mrs. Lori Thorn and her staff are doing there. Everyone who works at the school demonstrates a genuine passion to serve these students. I also appreciate the warm welcome the students extended to me. They were kind and respectful during the entire presentation.

The topic I chose to address was The Power of Positive Influence. As Dr. John C. Maxwell and his team (The John Maxwell Team) say it, “Creating positive influence will not only be a catalyst to your success, it will become the legacy you will leave behind.” No matter where we are and what we are doing, we influence someone and we are influenced by others. The question is what kind of influencers are we? What can we do to increase our influence with others?

Let me share only in this post one simple principle that helps to increase our influence with others in any situation and any country. The principle is Kindness. It does not require much to be kind and speak kind words to one another. Oh, how much I love these words of the Poet Joseph L. Townsend written over 150 years ago:

            Let us oft speak kind words to each other at home or wherever we may be;

Like the war-blings of birds on the heath-er, the tones will be welcome and free.

They will gladden the hear that is repining, give courage and hope from above.

And where the dark clouds hide the shining, let in the bright sunlight of love.

Oh, the kind words we give shall in memory live and sunshine forever impart.

Let us oft speak kind words to each other; kind words are sweet tones of the heart.

By just reading and reflecting on these words, my heart becomes a little sweeter. Can you think of someone today that you can speak kind word to? Do you have someone in your life that speaks kind words to you? Would you please take a moment and let that person know how much you appreciate the power of his or her positive influence?

The other principles that help increase our influence with people are service and how ability to connect with others. In a different post I will address these two principles.

From now and always; “Let us oft speak kind words to each other; kind words are sweet tones of the heart.”
